All states however will begin its enforcement by June 1, 2008. The UCRA is still a new registration program and is being perfected by the states. We are sure to see more changes in the system over the next few years. Some possible changes to look for are:
NYHUT- Decal Disappears but Registration Remains Carriers no longer receive a NYHUT decal for the cab of their trucks however the registration requirement is still very much in place. If you applied for a NYHUT after March 2007 you will only receive a certificate of registration to keep in the vehicle. DOT officers can determine if you are registered by the USDOT number and/or your truck license plates. Any vehicle over 18,000 lbs GVW must register for the New York Weight Distance Tax Certificate to operate in or thru the state of New York. This certificate requires quarterly reporting in addition to your IFTA reports. (There are currently four Weight Distance Tax States, each with its own registration criteria. These states are Kentucky, New Mexico, New York, and Oregon. Please be mindful that these reports are not included in your quarterly fuel tax reports.) UCR Effective September 10, 2007, the states and federal government implemented the new UCR program. ALL motor carriers will now be required to pay UCR fees. The UCR program replaced the Single State Registration System (SSRS). You may or may not receive a UCR notice from your state. The UCR board has proposed a November 15, 2007, enforcement deadline (the date in which 2007 UCR fees must be paid), but some states have already begun its enforcement. Thus, it’s extremely important for motor carriers to pay their UCR fees as soon as possible. For more information regarding the UCR program, please visit our UCR page, or click on our UCR Q&A guideline. Form 2290 This Highway Heavy Use tax runs from June through July for all trucks over 55,000 lbs GVW. This summer, get your paperwork ready by contacting Logistec and requesting the required Application and Service Listing forms. NYHUT New York HUT registration now requires that your business be on file with the state of New York using your Federal ID number (your FID). To register, you will now need to pay an additional cost and supply all owner information, including Social Security Number. Logistec can check if your FID is currently registered with New York and if not, we’ll be happy to assist you in getting your NYHUT registrations. Please submit our online Service Request Form or feel free to contact us directly. IFTA Fuel Tax Logistec is now offering a IFTA fuel tax reporting program. We’ll process your completed logs and fuel receipts all for as low as $35 per truck/per month.
