FMCSA Offers Alternative After the Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse Crashes

on Wednesday, 08 January 2020.

clearinghouse crashThe opening of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse has been anything but smooth, with businesses stuggling to complete required background checks on new hires due to the site crashing soon after launch.

Unable to handle the wave of requests, the site crashed repeatedly, frustrating users.  Until the issues with the site are resolved, the FMCSA have provided an alternative for employers to hire CDL drivers and maintain compliance.

“If you are an employer currently experiencing technical difficulties accessing the Clearinghouse and are unable to conduct required pre-employment queries, you may hire a driver using solely the procedures set forth in 49 CFR 391.23(e),” the agency announced in a message on the clearinghouse website. “Once FMCSA has determined and announced that users are able to access the Clearinghouse, pre-employment queries must also be conducted as required by section 382.701(a).”
