FMCSA Publishes New Online Carrier Registration System And Promptly Suspends It

on Wednesday, 18 January 2017.

In December the FMCSA announced that it would be indefinitely delaying the rollout of its new Unified Registration System. The system was scheduled to go into effect on January 14th, but today the agency published a final rule suspending the URS until it is ready for full rollout, citing the need to move all of its registration data into a central location as well as to perform further testing.

Since the new system is not live, carriers will still need to follow the same guidelines and submit the same registration update forms that are currently required.

The URS has been available since December 2015 and the FMCSA continues to tout its efficiency, stating that it has not only issues over 100,000 new DOT numbers but has also eradicated over 360,000 inactive USDOT numbers and blocked 100% of authority applications from ineligible carriers seeking to re-enter the system.
