Truck InspectionFor 2019, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) annual International Roadcheck event will take place June 4-6. During the International Roadcheck, inspectors will evaluate commercial motor vehicles and drivers to ensure they are operating safely. This 72-hour inspection will take place throughout North America.

Each year, the International Roadcheck focuses on a specific violation, with this year’s theme being steering and suspension systems. Jay Thompson, President of the CVSA, stated, “Steering and suspension are safety critical systems for any commercial motor vehicle. Not only do they support the heavy loads carried by trucks and buses, but they also help maintain stability and control under acceleration and braking, keeping the vehicle safely on the road.”

Additionally, inspectors will conduct the North American Standard Level 1 inspection, which covers:
- Brake systems
- Cargo securement
- Coupling devices
- Driveline/driveshaft
- Driver’s seat
- Exhaust systems
- Frames
- Fuel Systems
- Lighting Devices
- Steering Mechanisms
- Suspension
- Tires
- Van and open-top trailer bodies
- Wheels, rims, and hubs
- Windshield wipers.

The 2018 event was successful, with 67,603 total inspections. 67% of the total inspections were Standard Level 1 inspections, with 21.6% of those vehicles placed Out of Service (OOS). Additionally, 43.7% of the OOS orders issued during the event were because of Hours of Service violations.

The International Roadcheck’s mission is to raise awareness for safe commercial vehicles and drivers. By using a high-visibility, three-day inspection event, the CVSA reminds people of the accessibility of inspections, encouraging commercial motorists to be safe and compliant with regulations.

The International Roadcheck receives support from:
- Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)
- Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators
- Transport Canada
- Ministry of Communications and Transportation of Mexico, also known as Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes (SCT).
