Amother FMCSA Fraudulent Letter Scam

on Monday, 03 March 2014.

Logistec/TTS has just been made aware of another FMCSA fraudulent letter scam that is circulating.

The most recent fraud scheme involves letters being faxed to transportation entities asking the recipient to update and release its financial information to the FMCSA Procurement Office. The letter states that the recipient must update and disclose its EIN number and banking information to the FMCSA in order to be eligible for 2014 procurement.

Here's how to spot this scam:

  1. The FMCSA will never fax you a letter asking you to update or release your EIN and/or banking information.
  2. The FMCSA address listed on the letter shows "400 Seventh Street SW, Washington, DC 25090." Thee FMCSA has not residing at that address in over 10-years.
  3. The letter includes a fax number that does not belong to the FMCSA.

Be careful if you receive a letter like this, and if you have any questions regarding the authenticity of the letter contact Logistec or the FMCSA. If the latter, do an independent search for the FMCSA information and do NOT rely on the FMCSA contact information listed in the fraudulent letter.
