Are Your ELDs Ready for the End of 3G?

on Thursday, 15 December 2022.

Logitech ELD 3GOn December 31st, 2022 Verizon will become the final carrier to shut down its 3G network, which means that any ELD still relying on 3G will be out of compliance with FMCSA regulations.

Once Verzion sunsets its 3G network any 3G-relient ELD will register a malfunction, which, in accordance with 49 CFR 395.34, grants carriers up to 8 days to resolve the issue. Since the 3G network will no longer be active, the only resolution will be to replace outdated ELDs with upgraded models.

Here's how to make sure your business is prepared:

Check with Your ELD Provider

Reach out to your ELD provider to make sure your devices are up-to-date and that they meet all minimum requirements.

What if My ELDs are 3G Only?

Ask your ELD provider about their upgrade or replacement plan for upgrading 3G ELDs and ensure they complete the upgrade prior to the December 31st, 2022 deadline to avoid equipment malfunction and FMCSA compliance issues.

Final Notes

The FMCSA strongly recommends completing the steps listed above as soon as possible to avoid compliance issues. The last thing you want is to begin 2023 out of FMCSA compliance with malfunctioning ELDs, so please check with your ELD provider to make sure your business is all set heading into the new year.

As always, feel free to contact Logistec/TTS with any questions.
