During his address to Congress on Tuesday night, President Trump announced his plan to seek 1 Trillion in federal and private investments to fund a massive rebuilding of the United States’ aged infrastructure, including roads, bridges, tunnels, airports, and the railroad system.

The President stated, “To launch our national rebuilding, I will be asking the Congress to approve legislation that produces a $1 trillion investment in the infrastructure of the United States — financed through both public and private capital — creating millions of new jobs.”

While the President’s intentions are clear, there are still no details at present as to how he plans to proceed, though he reinforced his commitment to using American-made products and hiring American citizens for labor.

Fiscal conservatives have traditionally been unenthusiastic about authorizing large investments into the country’s transportation system, and there is speculation that the White House and Republican leaders may attempt to delay actions until 2018 to focus on other priorities.

In an effort to address concerns over the sizable undertaking by many in Washington, Trump said that “another Republican President, Dwight D. Eisenhower, [who] initiated the last truly great national infrastructure program: the building of the interstate highway system.” The President said, “The time has come for a new program of national rebuilding."
